GARDENER'S RETREAT

Gardener's Retreat is the definition of 'it exists'. If you're after a place with decent hygiene but no real culinary thrills, this is your spot. Pat Leesley and the crew seem to love their festive lunches, but I mean, can we really get excited about a carvery? Shelly mentioned the food being lovely, but let’s face it, lovely isn't exactly a five-star review. The staff are friendly, and the place is clean, but if you’re looking for something more than a polite nod from your meal, don’t hold your breath.

David Waters had a good time with his full English, which is commendable, but a 4-star review doesn’t scream 'must-go' either. If you want some home-cooked meals in a charmingly average place, this is it. Just don’t expect to rave about it later. This is a reliable stop, but if you’re wanting to impress anyone, you might want to up your game.
